Avert your eyes if you don't want to see elephant seals procreating ! Actually it just looks like they're sunbathing, not an X-rated image at all... so I don't have to self-censor this one :)
Seen at the Ano Nuevo State Preserve.
The female elephant seals go into estrus after they have weaned the pups. Though the pup here seems to be still hanging out near mom, big daddy has decided that she is ready to start next year's crop. The male (bull) elephant seals are so much larger than the females - they probably get to call the shots !
And as you can see from the Seal Census posted below, these guys are busy !
